Holy Week Music Day 1: Behold the Cross

Behold the Cross (Bob Hurd)

Prayed by Ken Boyce and Libby Saxton

A reflection by Libby Saxton, Director of Music and Liturgy: This song has been a standard for St. Michael's Parish during Holy Week. The 8th grade students at St. Michael School have also recently adopted it for use during their "Living Stations." This simple melody always strikes me as haunting. I imagine Jesus breathing heavy as he carried the cross to The moving notes are like breathing in and the longer notes are like a release of breath.

It has been hard for us pastoral musicians to not be constantly making music! So please pray and sing along with us as we make music, imagine, and pray along our way to Calvary.
